Effective evaporative cooling requires a very large surface area and, generally, fairly large volumes of air. I don't quite understand the proposed design.

I've also seen more traditional, fan-driven evaporative coolers built for automobiles. I've never used it but no reason to think it wouldn't work on a non-humid day.Yep, a big cylinder hanging on the window. I do agree that these hump mount units make great eye candy though.įor actual use I'd prefer air condtioning since it also removes moisture from the air instead of adding more to it. Yep,they work best in dry climates, especially the window mounted units as they have a higher air exchange volume and greater pad surface. It sits on the transmission hump and has four metal legs with rubber tips on the sides to keep it put. The little rubber drive belt for the water pump was bad and I had to replace it along with the little Aspen pads. I have one of these packed away somewhere, but it is aqua and white and more atomic looking with square shaped vents that can be pulled out and rotated.
